The proposed device automatically corrects the power factor without any human presence. It consists of a microcontroller which detects the power factor value, if the power factor goes below 0.9(lagging) during peak hours it automatically connects capacitor banks to improve it. Now a days, one APFC panel cannot be used for different application. To make it universal we provide four keys UP, DOWN, ENTER, MENU. These keys are used to enter the capacitor values and to vary the CT ratio. As the capacitor values and current magnitude varies according to the application. The main aim of the proposed model is to maintain the power factor nearer to 0.9 which helps to increase the efficiency of the system. Power factor correction is the process of compensating a lagging current by a leading current, through connecting capacitance to the supply. Automatic power factor correction device reads the power factor from the line voltage and line current by determining the delay in the arrival of the current signal with respect to the voltage signal. This time values are calibrated as phase angle and corresponding power factor. This values are then displayed on LCD. The main circuit calculate the compensation requirement and according to that switched on different capacitor bank. So that power factor is adjusted nearer to unity as possible. The proposed model helps to correct power factor automatically without any human presence. It can be concluded that the same proposed power factor correction model can be used for different applications such as industries, power systems and for domestic purpose. The use of microcontroller reduces the overall cost of model and speed of operation will get increase. Microcontroller is used as it can be control many parameters at a time and another reason is that it has inbuilt timer, Data memory, Program memory etc. So it occupy less space. The automatic power factor controller device helps to reduce magnetizing current and reduces charges on utility bills. So power factor correction technique helps to improve the efficiency of the system and the life of apparatus.
