Lucy and I took a short drive to Tavares to walk the shoreline and see the historic pavilion built over Lake Dora. A quiet six-acre park with seaplane views just outside The Villages. Wooton Park sits right on Lake Dora in downtown Tavares, which calls itself America's Seaplane City. It's a six-acre spot with a boat ramp, fishing pier, kayak rentals, picnic areas, a splash pad, and playground—perfect for watching seaplanes take off and land. The star is the Tavares Pavilion on the Lake, an 8,000-square-foot venue built over the water at the end of a 150-foot brick pier. The original pavilion opened in 1914 as the town's first community center for dances, plays, meetings, and even as temporary City Hall. It got torn down in 1961, but they rebuilt a modern version in 2014 that honors the history while hosting weddings and events. It's a hub for festivals, antique boat shows, classic car events, and sunset views. The park even uses special permeable ground grids to handle heavy traffic from seaplanes and crowds without turning into mud. Great little lakeside gem!
