Could scientists really bring the woolly mammoth back? Mammoth de-extinction is no longer just science fiction. Scientists are exploring whether modern genetic engineering could use the Asian elephant as the starting point for creating an animal with key woolly mammoth traits. But bringing an extinct species back is far more complicated than simply finding ancient DNA. In this documentary, we explore how mammoth de-extinction could work — from ancient mammoth DNA and genome sequencing to genetic editing, elephant cells, stem cells, embryos, and artificial womb technology. We also examine one of the biggest questions surrounding de-extinction: if an animal is created from an Asian elephant using genetic information from an extinct mammoth, would it actually be a woolly mammoth? The proposed process involves changing selected parts of an elephant's genome to reproduce traits associated with the mammoth, including adaptations for cold environments. As researchers learn more about ancient genomes, the number of genetic changes being considered can also grow. But even if scientists successfully create a mammoth-like animal, that would raise a much bigger question: Are we truly bringing an extinct species back — or creating something new? This video explores the science, technology, challenges, and unanswered questions behind the attempt to bring back the woolly mammoth. 🔬 Topics covered: • Mammoth de-extinction • Woolly mammoth DNA • Ancient DNA • Genetic engineering • Genome editing • Asian elephants • Mammoth cloning vs genetic engineering • Stem cells and embryos • Artificial womb technology • De-extinction science • The future of extinct species Subscribe for more documentaries exploring science, technology, biology, evolution, and the future of our planet. #DeExtinction #WoollyMammoth #GeneticEngineering
