I've used the original Tenba Roadie for years, and now I've upgraded to the Tenba Roadie V2 Roller 24. Tenba makes smaller versions in the V2 lineup, including the Spinner 21 and Spinner 22 with spinner wheels that work like an airline carry-on, and a couple of my friends love theirs. I still waited for the 24. Here's why.
Most of my work is local. I drive to it and roll everything in on an Inovativ production cart, so I don't need my kit squeezed down for overhead bins, international flights, or buses. As a hybrid photo and video shooter, the bigger bag lets me pack once and leave it. Cameras and lenses stay in the same spots, and I only tweak a few pieces depending on whether it's a photo day, a video day, or a job that needs extra gear.
With a smaller bag as a daily driver, it feels like packing a carry-on for a long weekend every single time. Unpack, reposition, make it all fit. The smaller Roadies are great bags, and if you travel a lot or run a lighter kit they're the right call. With cinema bodies, taller lenses, and audio, one bigger bag just works better for me.
Do you use a bigger bag or a smaller bag? Tell me in the comments. I'm always looking for ways to be more efficient.
