BENEATH THE ARMOR is inspired by Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail and the strength hidden behind one of the most feared warriors in the series. Everyone sees Titania. The swords. The armor. The woman who walks into battle seemingly without fear. But this song asks a different question: What is all that armor actually protecting? Erza survived a childhood filled with captivity, loss, betrayal, and pain. As she grew stronger, her armor became more than protection on the battlefield. In this song, every layer of steel represents another wall built around the frightened girl still underneath it. The first half of the song embraces that image. Erza turns pain into weapons, heartache into steel, and vulnerability into the terrifying legend everyone else sees. But true strength isn't never being hurt. The final chorus is inspired by Erza fighting with almost no armor at all, stripping away the protection she once depended on and standing exposed with nothing left to hide. “I never needed armor to be me.” This is a song about surviving long enough to realize that vulnerability doesn't erase your strength.
