What happens when a bustling, historic Victorian high street is swallowed whole by a massive shopping centre?
Welcome to Manchester Street in Southampton. Today, if you walk down it, something feels deeply off. You'll find old shopfronts like the traditional café and hairdresser, but they’re now trapped inside the Marlands Centre.

In this video, I take a deep dive into the archives to uncover the history of Manchester Street, the legendary pie shop, old bus station, and how a 1980s corporate mega-project forever changed the fabric of Southampton city centre.
