The Castellows - Full Show, College Station, Texas - Stage 12, Brookshire Brothers

Seeing The Castellows play in Texas was a real treat. This was the full show in College Station, right by Texas A&M University. Lance Roark (singing Wyatt Floes' part)) 1:15:12 Hurricane (prefaced with 'Encore' but they played it straight through) 1:21:03 Venue pics, meet and greet pics ‪@thecastellows‬ concert pilgrimages are always full of cool local sites, delicious local food and learning. On this trip for example we landed in Houston and went to a BBQ joint that was on Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknows show called Burns Original BBQ - delish! Music fans gotta eat! Then we went to the Houston Museum of Natural Science to see the Wiess Energy Hall that covers the science and history energy like conventional oil and gas including off shore drilling. You can't power great music without energy! We drove to College Station and saw bands at the Good Bull Icehouse on University Drive - that's in Northgate, a hopping place for the college kids with social squares, patios and more tasty food like Velvet Taco (mmmm). Then the day before The Castellows show we went to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M - WOW!!! - what a life of public service HW had. The library is amazing and has great history and an Oval Office you can sit in - I pretended I was calling world leaders to tell them about the Castellows show we'd be going too! What a ham! And what a surprise that the library had a cool music wing with, among other things, Bruce Springsteen's Born In The USA album outfit (jeans, T shirt and red cap), the 4 track tape recorder Bruce recorded Nebraska on, Stevie Ray Vaughan's #1 Strat, a Bo Diddley square guitar and Madonna's MTV awards wedding dress (that she sang Like A Virgin in). Was not expecting that. So you see - there is a lot for a music fan to do travelling to far away places to see their favourite band play. The show is an hour and twenty minutes but the trips have days of fun, food and learning. Back to this show. I was the only one standing for the show up front so I felt a bit awkward. A manager came up to me and asked what was in my bag - I showed him it was my jacket. Good thing they check for weirdos. A highlight of this show was Connor holding up a sign to say he wanted to play on Place They Call Home. Lily acknowledges him part way through and Ellie says that song is coming up and they let him! He plays guitar and sings. Lily forgets to come in on her line at the end I suppose because she was focused on Connor .. he strums a bit and she come in. Het gets a lot of praise for this - it never happened before they say. Powell says his use of in ear monitors was impressive as they made her cry the first time using them, and Lily said it sounds like you are in a fish bowl with them. Good on you ladies for making this young lads dreams come true. If you have keen ears you may notice that one song is playing a little fast and at a higher pitch than usual and that is because YouTube sometimes thinks uploads contain audio CD tracks in them and would block the video from public view. Sometimes it takes a few tweaks to get it to not be blocked. I thought maybe the song triggering that had a pre-recorded strings in the back maybe - at a different show Ellie did say 'hit it Brad to the drummer before the song, so maybe (?) that is it' ... although that could have just been the click track they use (Brad confirmed that after a Sarnia show when the Castfellows mingled with the crowd). Stage 12 was a nice semi open outdoor venue. Sorry if the images are not the sharpest but lighting from the back sign can mess up focusing on my phone (just a Pixel 8 Pro), and the front lighting did make shadows on the faces. Sound was pretty good though!!! I went to 5 shows and this was the second one. After the show Ellie and Powell signed merch and took fan photos - always so generous of them with their time!
