Better Than Baklava? Chef Makes "Katmer" From Scratch in Kilis, Türkiye 🇹🇷

I visited Kilis in southeastern Türkiye and stopped by a local katmer shop to see how this delicious dessert is made. The chef has over 40 years of experience, and the third generation of the family is now working there too. They roll the dough incredibly thin, so thin that you can actually read text placed underneath it. It’s a way to show their skill. The katmer is filled with kaymak (clotted cream), fried until golden, and served fresh with powdered sugar and cinnamon on top. In September 2026, I paid just 200 Turkish lira (around $4) for it. Kilis is one of the least visited cities in Türkiye, but I had a great time there.
