Abstract:
Tech librarian and SJSU iSchool alumnus Ryan Gan will share his career journey and insights — how the classes he took, open source software and certifications, and self-driven, small-scale technology projects enabled him to change careers from public library branch manager to systems and technical services librarianship. Learn which iSchool classes to take (and/or career-pivot strategies to use) to land a technology librarian job you’ll love as much as Ryan loves his!
Biography:
Ryan Gan has worked as an academic reference librarian, a public library teen/young adult librarian, and a public library branch manager. He then pivoted into a new role as a systems and technical services librarian for El Camino College, a job he’s held (and thrived in!) for nearly three years. Gan graduated from the SJSU School of Information with an MLIS degree.
