Solo Hiking UK's Highest Mountain BEN NEVIS via CMD ARETE | Munro Bagging

An epic trip solo hiking UK's highest mountain Ben Nevis via CMD arete. The solo hike takes in the 2 Munros Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis (Beinn Nibheis) which is the UK's highest mountain. Solo hiking Ben Nevis via CMD arete starts out from the North Face Car Park at Torlundy near Fort William. After following the North Face trail and then directions for the CIC (Charles Inglis Clark) hut you take a make shift path that veers to left and heads up the hill through boggy ground for a wee while. Once through the boggy climb you get onto firmer ground but still quite steep. After crossing over a burn, where you can fill up your canteens with water, it's on to the Munro top Carn Dearg Meadhonach (the middle red hill). From here you can see your first Munro summit Carn Mor Dearg and the arete you're going to walk across to get to the final pull up Ben Nevis. The arete itself is a little airy in places but nothing too exposed and there are easier paths to take if you don't have the stomach for the route across the top. The final pull up to the summit is quite demanding but it's quite a sight to behold when the top opens up all a sudden after all your hard work. From the summit of Ben Nevis it's back down the pony trail until just past the big waterfall where you veer off the main path towards Lochan Meall an t'Suidhe. From there you can head towards to CIC hut looking for an appropriate crossing of the Allt a'Mhuillin or do as I did, and save yourself a couple of miles or so by crossing further down stream. This is done by taking a rough path at the back of the Lochan over boggy ground. A warning though if it's been raining a lot then this makes the crossing here quite treacherous. On this occasion it wasn't too bad and 2 runners who past me on the way down the pony trail, who must have gone the way of the CIC hut, only past me once again when I was almost back at the North Face Car Park to show you how much time was saved.
