Garden to Table | Traditional Cooking & Authentic Village Life

The morning sun greeted us in the village, painting the landscape in soft light. The chill in the air reminded us of the season's embrace, a familiar comfort in our daily rhythm. My first task was a climb up a tree, gathering wild berries—a sweet treasure of the forest. My mother, ever the heart of our home, started kneading a dough with yogurt and sugar. It’s a simple recipe, passed down through generations, filled with the warmth of our family's traditions. My sister had a different task for the day – shepherding our goats. With my father, she ventured into the forest, the path winding toward a spring deep within the woods. It’s a journey she makes often, ensuring our animals have access to the freshest water. I spent my time carefully washing the berries and mixing them with sugar, preparing them for a delightful treat. The berries bubbled gently over the fire, releasing a sweet aroma that filled the air. My sister, having reached the spring, filled the jugs with cool, clear water for our goats, while my father climbed the trees, gathering fresh leaves for them to graze upon. Back at home, my mother lit the oven and spread the dough onto a large tray. I carefully arranged the sugared berries atop the dough, ready for the oven’s warmth. The aroma was simply intoxicating! The spring water went into our samovar, the coals glowing beneath to provide warmth. Freshly baked bread emerged, and the preserve we had simmering on the fire was ready too. Sharing a meal with my sister and mother, warm bread, sweet preserves, and the comforting feeling of togetherness – these are the simple joys that define our lives. It’s moments like these that make our village life so truly special.
