Tour de Rhody 2026 — Weather Chaos Edition

A break from my normal photography content - My 5th Tour de Rhody, and it might be the most epic one yet. Last year we rode the flattest century in the East — in a full-on downpour. This year, the weather struck again: our planned 67-mile route got canceled, so we pivoted to the 35-mile option instead. It stayed dry for the first 14 miles. Then the sky opened up and we rode straight into an absolute deluge. You can watch the conditions flip in real time — from clear roads to full chaos — as our crew of game-for-anything sexagenarians pushed through gravel roads in Johnston, Scituate, and Foster, RI, including rare access to normally closed roads around the Scituate Reservoir (thanks to the Providence Water Supply Board). Technical note: I knew the weather was going to be awful, which ruled out any normal photography technique — wet hands and all that. So I mounted my DJI Osmo Action 6 underneath my Garmin on my out-front mount, out of reach while riding. To get around that, I used a Bluetooth GPS remote secured to my handlebars, letting me turn the camera on and off without ever letting go of the bars.
