SCTV - Thursday Night Live (SNL parody) - Sept. 1980

Live from Edmonton... it's Thursday Night Live! SCTV skewers "Saturday Night Live" and it's counterpart/rip-off; "Fridays" with their own take on "hip, relevant, contempo kind of comedy" - in the words of Guy Caballero (Joe Flaherty). Guest host Earl Camembert (Eugene Levy) tries his best at stand-up in the opening monologue and is joined by: Jill Ellen Charney (Andrea Martin), announcer (Rick Moranis, mixing SNL's Don Pardo and Fridays' Jack Burns), John Laxo (Dave Thomas), Marty Kleinberg (Tony Rosato), Lisa Richards (Robin Duke) and Sam Giannomelli (also Rick Moranis) + others - some of which were Second City/Toronto players - (Dick Blasucci, Gail Kerbel, Paul Flaherty, Peter Wugalter and Bev Schechtman). If that's not enough, there's plenty of whooping and hollering, drug references and censored language too! This is from the 2nd episode of SCTV's 3rd season and aired on CBC in Canada, a year before NBC picked up the show for American audiences. It was very timely, which made it even more cheeky - airing on Sept. 26th, 1980 - a month before SNL's fifth season (their first without John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd) and five months after "Fridays" first episode was broadcast on ABC.
