WE'VE BEEN KEEPING A HUGE SECRET | PJ AND THOMAS

As our kids have gotten older, our house has gotten smaller and smaller. 😂 Five years ago, we started searching for a very specific kind of home. Over the years, we toured more houses than I can count and even made an offer or two, but nothing ever felt quite right. We wanted our own version of Turkey Hill, Martha Stewart’s former Colonial-style home on four acres in Connecticut, complete with farm animals, beautiful gardens, and the convenience of being right in town. Basically, we wanted a little farm without actually having to live out in the country. 😂 Thomas had his own vision. He wanted a house that reminded him of one of his favorite movies, The Family Stone. A traditional older home with a foyer, a living room just off the entry, and all the character and charm that comes with it. Most of his wish list was architectural or cosmetic. My must have list was a little more complicated. I wanted acreage for our animals, but I also wanted to be less than 10 minutes from town. We both loved the idea of an older home, but I wasn’t willing to compromise on updated electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and windows. And with three growing kids, we needed plenty of space for them to ride their bikes, play basketball, and just be kids. Finding a house that checked all those boxes felt impossible. After five years of searching, we had almost convinced ourselves that the only way to get everything we wanted was to build it. Just two months ago, we actually met with a builder to start planning a new home on our farm in Benton. We love everything about our farm, except how far away it is from the kids’ schools. It was the one thing we couldn’t change. And then, just when we had started making plans to build, something happened that almost felt too good to be true.The house we’d spent five years searching for came on the market. The timing almost felt poetically perfect . After years of looking, countless house tours, and nearly giving up on finding everything we wanted in one place, there it was. A house that checked all the boxes. Of course, there are things we want to change and projects we’re already dreaming about, but that’s what makes this next chapter so exciting. After five years of searching, we’ve finally found a place we can’t wait to fix up, make our own, and call home.
