Modi govt has quietly opened door to fees on UPI’: Rahul Gandhi, Cong after notification ------------- Rahul Gandhi and Congress have accused the Modi government of quietly opening the door to fees on UPI after a new notification. The Finance Ministry’s September 14 notification bars charges on UPI transactions up to ₹2,000 and RuPay debit card payments. However, Congress claims this leaves the door open for Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on higher-value merchant transactions above ₹2,000 — which make up a large share of UPI’s total value. Rahul Gandhi alleged that the move could ultimately burden customers through higher prices and accused the government of surrendering to American payment companies’ pressure. The government and BJP have denied any plan to impose fees on consumers or higher-value transactions at present. What do you think about this development? Will UPI remain completely free?
