Inside the Tomb of Emperor Jahangir | Lahore’s Hidden Mughal Treasure | Pakistan |Yazdan TV Tomb of Jahangir, Lahore: full history, inside and outside tour and conservation details of the great Mughal mausoleum at Shahdara Bagh. 📜 HISTORY Emperor Jahangir, the fourth Mughal emperor, died in 1627 while returning towards Lahore from Kashmir. He was buried in Empress Nur Jahan's Dilkusha Garden at Shahdara, on the bank of the River Ravi. His son, Emperor Shah Jahan, ordered a mausoleum fit for an emperor. Construction began in 1627 and was completed in 1637. Some historians say Nur Jahan had a major part in its vision and design. The single-storey tomb is built of red sandstone with fine marble inlay (pietra dura), a flat roof and four tall corner minarets. Inside is the marble cenotaph inlaid with coloured stones. It stands in the Shahdara Bagh complex with the Akbari Sarai and the tombs of Asif Khan and Nur Jahan. The complex was damaged over the centuries, including by a railway line laid through it in the British era.
