Jaguar XJ12 The Road Back – 11 Years in Storage… Has It Seized? | Ep 1

It’s been off the road and in storage since 2015. Now, after 11 years, this 1990 Jaguar XJ12 is finally getting another chance. Welcome to Jaguar XJ12: The Road Back. In this brand-new series on TP’s Diary, I’ll be working through this wonderful old Jaguar step by step, discovering exactly what 11 years of sitting still has done to it — and ultimately seeing if we can get this V12 back where it belongs: On the road. But before I even think about turning the key, there are some big questions to answer. In Episode 1, the wheels come off and I tackle the seized brake callipers. Then attention turns to the heart of the Jaguar. I remove all 12 spark plugs and carefully turn the V12 over by hand for the first time. Has the engine survived 11 years in storage… or has it seized? Once we know the answer, the investigation goes deeper. I start working through the ignition and fuel-injection systems, checking for spark, testing the injector signal and checking whether the injectors themselves are still operating. This isn't going to be a full restoration. The aim is to recommission the car properly, work through whatever problems we uncover and gradually bring this XJ12 back to life. And with a Jaguar that's been standing for more than a decade, I'm sure there are going to be a few surprises along the way! For anyone new to the channel, I'm Tom, and I've spent 30-plus years working in precision engineering, including many years running my own engineering businesses. I've also been playing around with, repairing and restoring cars since I was young. TP’s Diary is simply my way of sharing that passion.
