The new Broncos stadium is set to cost around $4 billion, and it will sit less than a mile from the place it replaces. The team finally released renderings for Burnham Yard, and the stadium wasn't in any of them. What Denver actually gets from this move is a lot more complicated than a new building across I-25. Empower Field's lease runs out after the 2030 season, and instead of renovating, the Broncos chose a 58-acre former railroad yard on the other side of the interstate, now part of a development reported to cover around 100 acres. The plan calls for a retractable roof, which for a team that has played under open skies since 1960 has stirred up more anger than the move itself. Around the stadium, four new districts would bring homes, hotels, restaurants and parks, with the old locomotive shop and turntable kept as part of the attraction. Then there's the money. The Walton-Penner group is funding it privately, but personal seat licenses are on the table, Denver and Colorado have promised support with no new taxes, and the whole thing is supposed to open in 2031 with no stadium design, no final budget and a long list of approvals still outstanding.
