Lemurs Meet Modern Zoo Design: Calgary's Land of Lemurs in Planet Zoo

Calgary Zoo’s Land of Lemurs is one of the most unusual primate habitats in North America. Instead of viewing lemurs from the outside, the entire exhibit is designed around movement — with climbing routes crossing directly above guests, indoor winter habitats integrated into the walkthrough, and pathways carefully designed to reveal the habitat gradually. In this episode, we recreate Calgary Zoo’s immersive Land of Lemurs in Planet Zoo, focusing on circulation, modern zoo architecture, naturalistic water barriers, and the massive rope network that turns the habitat into a fully connected climbing system. From shallow moat detailing and layered landscaping to custom glass framing and indoor climbing structures, this build became one of the most complex walkthrough habitats I’ve created in Planet Zoo so far.
