"The Turnover Chain Was My Idea" | Mike Rumph | Greentree Made Me Ep.3

Episode 3 of Greentree Made Me, presented by Hard Rock Bet. Mike Rumph came to Miami out of Atlantic High in Delray as the No. 2 safety in the country, convinced he was better than a redshirt freshman named Ed Reed. Ed checked him at the door. The next day Chuck Pagano moved him to corner — and he started 40 games as a Hurricane, won a national championship in 2001, made two-time All-Big East and went 27th overall to the San Francisco 49ers. Twenty-five years later he's back at Greentree as Miami's Director of Recruiting, a job he built for himself out of nothing after being demoted from corners coach. He sits down with DJ Williams to talk about the play that nearly broke him, the newspaper clipping he taped to his dorm door, what Mario Cristobal has actually changed about the culture, the real story behind the turnover chain, and what to expect when Florida State comes to Hard Rock Stadium. 00:00 "Greentree made you change your life" 02:14 Welcome — who is Mike Rumph 03:20 Recruiting then vs. now: NIL, facilities, the portal 04:11 Why Mario Cristobal never stops 05:38 "Is he a Miami guy?" — what that means today 07:05 Social media changed the rivalry 08:19 Who's the enforcer on this team 11:12 Malachi Toney's superpower 12:55 Former Canes on staff 14:21 The Tri-Rail ride that made him a Hurricane 15:50 "I thought I was better than Ed Reed" 17:18 How Miami competed — brutal, then brothers 20:24 Inside today's locker room: analytics and sports science 22:46 Coming off probation 24:53 Greentree made me 25:33 Breaking his thumb on Clinton Portis — and playing the next day 28:05 The Penn State play, 1999 30:46 Taping his worst game to his dorm door 31:15 Demoted — and what he did about it 32:48 Building the campus tour from scratch 34:38 The Boost Mobile partnership 35:28 This year's team vs. last year's 37:01 Depth, NIL, and the running back room 39:22 The turnover chain origin story 40:16 "I'm Cuban, this is Miami — we do Cuban links" 41:14 DJ's $140K week 43:21 The trademark race 45:35 Florida State preview 47:40 The recruiting pitch: why Miami 48:34 "It's not just four years, it's forever" ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WATCH THE SERIES ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Ep. 1 — Jonathan Vilma ▸ [   • Jonathan Vilma on What Made The U Differen...  ] Ep. 2 — Joaquin Gonzalez ▸ [   • "Joaquin Said Dominate" - Joaquin Gonzalez...  ] ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Greentree Made Me is presented by Hard Rock Bet.
