The Lost Ninth Legion: Rome's Military Unit that Mysteriously Disappeared

Around AD 108, Rome’s Ninth Legion, Legio IX Hispana, was stationed at York in Roman Britain. Then, sometime afterward, it disappears from the historical record. Was the Ninth destroyed in a forgotten war in Britain? Transferred elsewhere in the Roman Empire? Wiped out during another conflict? Or was the legion simply dissolved, leaving behind a mystery that historians have debated for centuries? In this episode of Unsolved History, we follow the surviving inscriptions, archaeological evidence, Roman accounts, and modern theories to investigate what may have happened to Rome’s legendary lost legion. Thousands of soldiers. One of Rome’s veteran legions. And then… silence. #UnsolvedHistory #RomanEmpire #NinthLegion #AncientRome #RomanHistory #History #HistoricalMysteries Patreon: https://patreon.com/UnsolvedHistorywi...
