Professionally construction of a house goes through phases i. e Sub-structure, Superstructure and finishing. Sub-structure is that work done in the foundation including the oversite concrete slab. Superstructure is that work done above the Concrete slab including roofing sometimes called the shell construction. And finishing includes plastering , provision of services like plumbing, electrical installations, mechanical installations, painting etc.. In our context we are dealing with the superstructure and we are taking you through a process of construction up roofing level or wall plate . Normally after the slab we lay an APC on top of the slab mixed with waterproof cement onto which a DPC is laid either as a bituminous felt or Polythene membrane to arrest effects of dampness resulting from capillary attraction. We then begin our blockwork and observe the recommended heights and sizes of windows and doors up to a height of 2.4m if our windows shall have permanent vents attached to them or 2.1m if we are to have independent vents laid above the beam. The house should be built 3.0m up to wall plate in order to have a fair height of a ceiling to allow favorably good circulation of air into the house and visibly a good height of the roof
