Every human culture ever studied has believed in something beyond the visible world. Every single one. So when did it begin — and what does the oldest evidence actually show?
In this video we follow the trail backward through the ground: a 40,000-year-old ivory figure of a creature that doesn't exist in nature, half human and half lion... graves around 100,000 years old where the dead were buried with red ochre and deer antlers, as if someone believed they were going somewhere... a hilltop in Turkey where hunter-gatherers raised giant carved stone pillars before farming took hold, a discovery that turned the textbook order of civilization upside down... and the quirk in your own brain that makes you sense someone in an empty room, which some scientists think is where the feeling of unseen beings first came from.
Then the bigger question: did belief come after civilization — or did it help build it?
This video doesn't argue for or against any faith. It follows what archaeology and psychology can tell us about when humans first looked up and felt they weren't alone, and why that feeling has never left us.
💬 What do you think came first — the feeling, or the belief? Every view is welcome here. Keep it kind.
