William Goodwin: Voluntary No. 1 – Andrew Goodwin | Church of the Ascension, Middlesbrough

A performance of Voluntary No. 1 in G minor by the 18th-century English composer William Goodwin (d. 1784), performed by Andrew Goodwin. This piece comes from Goodwin's collection "Twelve Voluntaries for the Organ or Harpsichord", published in London around 1776. It is typical of the English style of organ music of the time, with a slow first movement, followed by a quicker movement for a solo stop. William Goodwin served as the organist at St Bartholomew-by-the-Exchange in London and later at what is now Southwark Cathedral. The performance is recorded on the lovely two-manual tracker action pipe organ at the Church of the Ascension in Middlesbrough, built by Principal Pipe Organs of York in 1998.
