NEW DELHI, 31 October : Tensions escalated in the national capital as several protesters from Arunachal Pradesh were detained by Delhi Police today while staging a peaceful protest against the proposed 11,200 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). The protesters were expressing solidarity with the ongoing anti-dam movement in the Siang Valley, strongly opposing the proposed mega project and raising concerns over the protection of the Siang River, ancestral land, indigenous rights and the future of the local communities. A video circulating from the protest site shows a protesters being taken away in a police vehicle while continuously raising the slogan, "BEHENE DO, BEHENE DO, SIANG NADI KO BEHENE DO" demanding that the Siang River be allowed to flow freely.
