In Kashmir, land is more than property, it is memory, inheritance, and survival. Since 2019, thousands of acres of farmland and forest have been taken for new roads, military zones, and 'projects of national importance'. Through the voices of farmers, shepherds, activists and local researchers, Kus Kari Gongul | A Song for the Vanishing Fields, uncovers how these transformations: justified in the name of development are quietly altering the region’s social, political, economic and ecological fabric. Shot across Budgam, Shopian, Bandipora, Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Kashmir valley, the film captures a landscape where paddy fields become highways, meadows turn into restricted zones, and farmers are left negotiating loss with dignity. At once personal and political, Kus Kari Gongul | A Song for the Vanishing Fields, asks what it means to belong to a place when the land itself is being rewritten.
