Wheelchair distribution mission with Global Village Foundation and Wheelchairs For Kids Australia

Enjoy a beautiful highlights video from ‪@GlobalVillageFoundation‬ whose team has been in Central Java Province (600km west of their base in Bali). From 9–16 August, this hardworking team assembled and custom-fit 181 Wheelchairs for Kids Australia wheelchairs for 181 very deserving children from across the Province. The seven-day mission coincided with Indonesia’s Independence Day celebration week, making it an especially meaningful time to help so many children across the region to gain a little more independence and a better quality of life. Children and their families travelled from 18 different regencies and 3 different cities across the Province. As the accompanying map shows (see below in comments), a lot of these children and their families will have travelled considerable distances, many from remote and rural communities. For these children, access to a properly fitted wheelchair would be virtually impossible. That is what makes this project so meaningful. It is not simply about providing a wheelchair; it is about reaching children who have often been overlooked by geography and circumstance and giving them greater mobility, independence and opportunities to participate in everyday life. Along with the incredible GVFB team, we would also like to acknowledge the support of the Australian Consulate-General Surabaya whose ongoing partnership with the Global Village Foundation has helped with the transport costs to ship 700 wheelchairs from Perth to East & Central Java since 2023.
