The first thing she noticed when she arrived on the Moon was the silence. No ticking clocks, no ringing phones, no voices calling her name. Back on Earth, finding a moment to do nothing had somehow become difficult. Every morning began with an alarm and a list of things to do. As soon as one task was finished, another was waiting. It wasn't that she disliked being busy. But sometimes, she missed the afternoons of her childhood, when she could spend hours simply looking out the window. She unfolded a chair outside her spacecraft. A small lantern, a warm drink, and a book she had brought from Earth. Beyond the lunar horizon, the blue Earth floated quietly in the darkness. Somewhere on that distant planet was the life she had left behind yesterday. The familiar streets, the little shop she often visited, the newspaper still lying unread on her table. She couldn't see any of them from here. And yet, they didn't feel so far away. She settled into her chair and opened the book she had been meaning to finish. She had carried it everywhere, but somehow never found the time to read more than a few pages. As she turned a page, a small piece of paper slipped into her lap. "There's no need to hurry here." It was her own handwriting. She remembered writing those words the night before her departure, while packing her things. For a moment, she looked at the note. Then she slipped it back between the pages and continued reading. She wondered what time it was on Earth. Some cities would be waking up. In others, people would be preparing dinner. Someone was boarding a train. Someone was finishing work. Someone was opening a book before bed. All those ordinary moments were still unfolding on that little blue planet. She smiled. She had traveled all the way to the Moon, only to find herself doing exactly what she always loved. Sitting in a chair, reading a book. But today, there was no next appointment to think about. No reason to count the pages or wonder when she needed to leave. When her eyes grew tired, she could look up at Earth. And whenever she felt like reading again, she could simply turn another page. The lantern cast a soft golden glow across her book. She took another sip of her drink and leaned back into her chair. It wasn't time to go home just yet. --------------------------- WHERE WE READ is a place where we create scenery, music, and little stories, one by one, with a little help from AI.
