Manufacturing Engineer on the Finishing Floor at Webco | Day in the Life: Will Loos

What does a manufacturing engineer do in a fast-paced production environment where priorities can change in an instant? In this Day in the Life video, Will Loos, a Finishing Floor Manufacturing Engineer at Webco, shares how he supports daily operations, solves problems, and drives long-term improvement across the finishing floor. Each morning, he starts by checking in with maintenance, reviewing any overnight issues, and confirming whether the straightener, packaging station, or other finishing equipment needs immediate attention. Whether it’s troubleshooting mechanical equipment, supporting operators, or coordinating with maintenance, the tasks of the day shift based on what the plant needs most. For Will, his customers are the operators, technicians, maintenance staff, and production teams. Understanding their needs helps him support safe operations, improve processes, and keep workflow moving. His key responsibilities include: • responding to urgent equipment or process issues • coordinating with maintenance and production teams • reviewing improvement projects and long-term upgrades • supporting hot orders that shift priority mid-day • designing simple, practical solutions that improve safety and performance • evaluating mechanical systems and ensuring equipment reliability • partnering with operators to understand real-world challenges Will emphasizes flexibility in manufacturing as plans change quickly. Hot orders, equipment issues, or customer requirements can shift priorities at any moment, and engineers must set aside plans to focus on what helps the team succeed. One piece of advice Will carries with him: “Don’t be that engineer who walks in with a binder and says they know more. Learn from the people who’ve been here.” Explore engineering and technical career opportunities at Webco: https://www.webcotube.com/careers/ Watch more Day in the Life videos to see how Webco teams collaborate, innovate, and keep operations running smoothly.
