How does a titanium screw become a tooth? We open up the jaw in 3D and follow a dental implant from the first scan to the finished crown. We cover what an implant is and how bone fuses to titanium (osseointegration), who makes a good candidate, and the full procedure: CBCT and intraoral scans, digital planning, 3D-printed guides, dynamic navigation and robots, gentle drilling under cooled saline, torque and ISQ stability readings, healing, abutment and CAD/CAM crown. We also explain bone grafts and sinus lifts, titanium vs titanium zirconium vs zirconia, the types of implant (endosteal, subperiosteal, zygomatic, short, mini, overdentures, All-on-4), and the pros and cons.
Then the risks, aftercare, what happens if a gap is left untreated, and the complications dentists work to prevent.
*Question of the day:* an implant can last decades, yet it can't feel pressure like your own tooth. If you lost a front tooth, would you pick titanium, metal-free zirconia, or a bridge? Tell us why in the comments!
