In 1871, the youngest daughter of the King of Denmark, and sister of the future Queen Alexandra and Empress Maria Feodorovna, left Copenhagen with her mother. The public was told she was ill. In Athens, at eighteen, Princess Thyra gave birth to a daughter who was adopted in Denmark. Within weeks, the young cavalry officer who fathered the child was dead. The Danish court has never confirmed the story, and the child's identity has never been proven. The name most often given, Kate Jørgensen, has no document behind it. A private Copenhagen diary from 1926 names a different woman entirely. In this documentary we follow the story through the records that survive: a lieutenant's parish register, a count's diary, Thyra's own letters, and her unlikely marriage into the exiled House of Hanover, the family that fought Queen Victoria over Queen Charlotte's jewels and won. At the centre is a Köchert diamond choker linked to Thyra, which sold at Christie's in 2017 for more than five times its estimate. ------------------------------------------- Let's Connect! 🔥SUBSCRIBE to my Youtube Channel / @BehindTheGift -------------------------------------------- Behind The Gift All the videos, songs, images, and graphics used in the video belong to their respective owners and I or this channel do not claim any right over them.
