On August 21, 1986, Lake Nyos in Cameroon released carbon dioxide that flowed into surrounding valleys and killed more than 1,700 people. This animated reconstruction explains how gas accumulated in deep water, how rising bubbles amplified the release, and why the dense gas followed low ground. The precise trigger remains uncertain. Carbon dioxide is colorless; diagrams are illustrative. Controlled degassing later reduced the buildup. Authored animation, synthetic narration, and sound. Thumbnail landscapes and cutaways are illustrative reconstructions, not archival photographs. #LakeNyos #Science #NaturalDisasters
