1,379 Snapshots Down to 84 and the Answer Stayed the Same

Last Saturday I walked almost 15 miles on a trail. It took me close to four hours at 16 to 17 minutes a mile. My usual walk is a 5K, so this was a big stretch.
Daily steps for the week: 10,232 (that one walk pulled the average up)
VO2 max: 32.2 (typical for a 51 year old is about 33)
Resting heart rate: up (it should go down)
Heart rate variability: up
Workouts: fewer, because I am finishing the app
This week I also compared two versions of my Vital Watch Studio app side by side. The first took 1,379 acquisition windows to build the weekly report. The second only captured snapshots when a number changed and took 84. Both reached the same conclusion. Same answer with less work makes the app faster and more efficient, so that is the version I am keeping.
The app pulls my chosen metrics from Apple Health into a CSV in Google Drive, and a dashboard skill turns that into a weekly report. No LLM sits in the middle. When I pulled the same data through an LLM, it stalled again and again because of privacy limits, and I had to keep telling it to retry. The workflow version finishes in one pass.
Apple Health holds around 400 data points. You pick the handful that matter to you, and the dashboard shows red when a metric moves the wrong way, green when it moves the right way, and gray when there is no prior week to compare.
THE MANTRA THIS WEEK
Compare yourself to your yesterday identity.
Ideal weight and ideal BMI give guidance. What matters more is whether you are moving closer to your target or further away. Good health is a moving target, and a weekly dashboard keeps you in the rhythm.
Respect to every Berlin marathon finisher. Walking 15 miles took me almost four hours, and they ran 26 in about two.
