The presentation covered the following early blues women: Mamie Smith, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Lucille Hegamin, Ida Cox, Alberta Hunter and their influences on Ella May Morse, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Patsy Cline, Marcia Ball, and Aretha Franklin. The reference at the end is to how Sue used to play this as a rock tune with the Jeanne French Band in Boston back in the 70's... Jeanne's in Singapore now but her version is track #4 on her Mean Man Blues album available on buy.com. Lyle Lovett also does a very nice version, but uses lyrics modified by Francine Reed.
