This approximately 2.1 km walking route offers a wonderful contrast between Madrid's sophisticated shopping districts, monumental architecture and charming historic streets. Our walk begins on Calle de Goya, in the heart of Barrio de Salamanca, one of Madrid's most prestigious neighborhoods. Famous for its elegant buildings, fashionable boutiques, restaurants and lively shopping atmosphere, Salamanca offers a fascinating glimpse into everyday life in one of the capital's most distinctive districts. We continue along Calle de Velázquez, a beautiful avenue characterized by its impressive architecture and elegant urban atmosphere, before turning onto Calle de Alcalá. The route soon brings us to the magnificent Puerta de Alcalá, one of Madrid's most recognizable monuments. Built in the 18th century under King Charles III, this spectacular neoclassical gateway stands at Plaza de la Independencia, just beside the famous Retiro Park. Continuing west along Calle de Alcalá, we approach Plaza de Cibeles, one of the most iconic squares in Madrid. Here, the beautiful Cibeles Fountain stands surrounded by impressive buildings, including the spectacular Palacio de Cibeles, home to Madrid City Hall, and the historic Banco de España. From Cibeles, our journey turns south onto Paseo del Prado, one of Madrid's most beautiful tree-lined boulevards. This historic avenue is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site known as the Landscape of Light, celebrated for its extraordinary combination of architecture, culture, art and urban green spaces. As we continue along Paseo del Prado, we discover a more peaceful atmosphere, surrounded by elegant buildings, mature trees and some of Madrid's most important cultural institutions. Our walk then turns towards Plaza de las Cortes, home to the impressive Congreso de los Diputados, the Spanish Congress of Deputies. Its monumental neoclassical façade and famous bronze lions make it one of the most recognizable institutional buildings in the city. Finally, we enter Calle del Prado, a charming street in the historic Barrio de las Letras. Known for its literary heritage, traditional architecture, cafés and cultural atmosphere, this neighborhood offers a completely different perspective on central Madrid. The walk ends near Calle del Prado 18, in the heart of this fascinating historic district.
