Discover one of Sri Lanka’s most hidden and breathtaking locations – Baker’s Bend, located deep inside the Nanperial (Nonpareil) Estate near Belihuloya 🇱🇰
📍 What is Baker’s Bend?
Baker’s Bend is a horseshoe-shaped road bend and viewpoint located inside the Nonpareil (Nanperial) Estate near Belihuloya in the Ratnapura District.
It is the 23rd bend of the estate road leading to Nagrak Bungalow
Elevation: around 1,530m (≈5000 ft) above sea level
Climate: cool, similar to Nuwara Eliya
👉 It’s not just a road curve it’s a famous scenic viewpoint + hiking destination.
🌄 Why is it special?
Baker’s Bend is famous for its 360° panoramic views:
Mountain ranges: Balathuduwa, Gommolikanda, Adarakanda
Reservoirs: Samanala Wewa & Udawalawe
Southern plains & misty valleys
Close proximity to Horton Plains
All of this makes it a perfect spot for photography, drone shots, and cinematic travel content
🐎 Story behind the name
There’s an interesting colonial story:
Named after British explorer/governor Samuel Baker
His horse slipped and fell off a cliff at this spot
He survived, and later created the bend in a horseshoe shape to remember his horse
👉 That’s why the bend itself looks like a horse shoe.
In this video, I take you on a thrilling road trip through narrow, steep estate roads to reach the famous horseshoe-shaped Baker’s Bend, known for its dangerous curves and stunning panoramic views. From misty mountains to views of Samanala Wewa and Udawalawe, this place feels like standing above the clouds.
This is not your typical tourist destination like Ella or Nuwara Eliya – Baker’s Bend is raw, untouched, and perfect for true adventure lovers.
