Step back in time with us at Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge, Shropshire! It's our first visit to Blists Hill since before Covid, and we're looking forward to seeing what's changed now that the National Trust has taken over. We meet a Victorian policeman who can't imagine people ever flying, discover that the Victorian postal service might have been quicker than today's, and explore traditional shops including the grocer's, post office and chemist. There's also a tempting bakery, some very expensive chips that John declares the best he's had in years, and a visit to the Duke of Sutherland's cottage where John unexpectedly turns into the Swedish Chef from The Muppets! Along the way, we look at accessibility around Blists Hill, including the Sunflower Room and the challenges of navigating the town's steep hills. Who are we? We're Sue, John and George, and together we're Special Needs Adventure Family. John is blind and has hearing loss, while George has autism and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. We enjoy exploring interesting places, discovering history and sharing our experiences of travelling and enjoying days out as a family with disabilities.
