Preconceived world

Preconceived World is an original doomgrass song — a collision of doom metal heaviness with bluegrass rhythm, stomp, and atmosphere. The song is written from the perspective of a conversation with a psychiatrist. At the center of it is a simple metaphor: the box. The box represents the labels and categories I use to try to make sense of the world — and of myself. Every time I think I finally understand where everything belongs, something changes. A belief gets challenged. A contradiction appears. A person refuses to fit the label I expected them to fit. And the same thing happens when I turn that judgment inward. Who am I supposed to be? What does a certain belief, identity, emotion, or part of myself supposedly say about the rest of me? What happens when the person I actually am refuses to fit inside the version of myself I thought I was supposed to be? Preconceived World is about learning that people are complicated. Beliefs are complicated. Identity is complicated. The world rarely stays inside the boxes we build for it. Sometimes the box was the problem all along.
