Around 440 BC, before dawn, a fifty-two-year-old woman kneels at a freezing spring on Mount Parnassus. In a few hours Apollo will answer kings and generals in her voice. She is the Pythia, the oracle of Delphi.
Most people ask whether the oracle was real, drugged or faked. This video asks a harder question: what did it cost the woman on the tripod to be the place where every question in Greece landed?
The story builds the machine underneath Delphi from three parts: a voice that belongs to nobody, a gate that decides who gets in and when, and words that stay true whatever happens next. Along the way it covers how the Pythia was chosen, why she was an older woman in a girl's dress, what she gave up when her old life closed, and what the record says against what is legend.
It ends with a question for you: a house, food for life and honour at the price of your family, or a quiet life on a mountain farm where nobody asks you anything that matters. Which would you take?
