Laid Off at 53: Starting Over in My 50's - Sales, AI, or What?

I was recently laid off from my job after 5 years. I was doing what I thought was a good job. Management was praising me with the job performance and the reviews always were exceeded expectations. Then in 2025 an investment firm bought the company and made changes to the compensation plan. New upper management was replaced and they went from office to office looking for cuts. Being the more highly paid person on the sales team I got that sudden call from a new manager who started 2 weeks earlier and thinking it was a good call…. The new manager mentioned HR is joining us and this will be my last day. Up to this point I loved the team, had confidence in what we were offering and was completely comfortable being a consultant to potential clients. Call me an advisor that they could call for advice in Telecommunications. Well today I’m past 50 and find myself in a new situation. Do I continue to run and spin in the hamster wheel? Do I reinvent myself and continue with my passion for technology but more technical and hands on outside of sales? Do I use AI which seems to be the future?
