This ceremony will be conducted in accordance with the ritvik system of initiation established by Vishwa Guru Srila Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, as outlined in his July 9, 1977 letter. Srila Rupa Gosvami, one of the principal disciples of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, recommends the following steps on the path of regulative devotional service: 1. Taking shelter of a bona fide spiritual master. 2. Accepting initiation from him. 3. Serving him. 4. Receiving instructions from the spiritual master and inquiring about devotional service. 5. Following in the footsteps of previous Acharyas and adhering to the directions of the spiritual master. By carefully studying Srila Prabhupada’s teachings and demonstrating proficiency in a written assessment, eligible candidates earn the privilege of taking diksha from a ritvik priest and officially becoming disciples of Srila Prabhupada. Candidates recommended for initiation take a vow to chant 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra daily and to follow the four regulative principles for the rest of their lives: 1. No meat-eating 2.
