THE SHARIF PROJECT | فوجی سرپرستی سے اقتدار تک

THE SHARIF PROJECT | فوجی سرپرستی سے اقتدار تک How did the Sharif family rise from migrants and industrialists to become one of Pakistan’s most powerful political dynasties? In this episode of The Unmuted Voice, we go back to the origins of the Sharif family’s political journey and examine the relationships and power structures that accompanied their extraordinary rise. From their migration from India and the expansion of their industrial empire, to their growing links with the establishment — and the pivotal role often attributed to General Ghulam Jilani Khan in bringing the Sharifs closer to the corridors of political power. We then follow the story into the era of General Zia-ul-Haq: the political patronage, opportunities and alliances that helped transform a powerful business family into a political force in Punjab and eventually at the national level. From business to politics. From Jilani to Zia. From Lahore to Islamabad. From influence to power. But how much of the Sharifs’ political rise was the result of their own ambition and political strategy — and how much depended on military patronage? This documentary examines the history, relationships, controversies and competing narratives surrounding the rise of the Sharif family. Because in Pakistan, politics has rarely been just about politicians. It has also been about power behind the throne. 🎙️ THE UNMUTED VOICE Voicing the silenced, questioning the powerful. Uncensored.
