Homestead SALT Farm of Mangkholal, Singngat, Sept'26

Farmer Mangkholal of S.Lhanghoiveng village, Singngat subdivision, Churachandpur district of Manipur in Northeast India has established a SALT (Sloping Agriculture Land Technology) farm on his homestead land with the support of SUNBIRD TRUST. Mangkholal is cultivating a variety of seasonal crops along with fruit trees on his SALT farm. The contour hedgerows of nitrogen-fixing shrubs ensure in-situ soil and water conservation and fertility management. He is practicing crop rotation and also conserving indigenous Job's Tears millet which is fast disappearing from the hill region of northeast India. This farm is an excellent example of SALT-based sustainable farming approach.
