The Tower of Babel: Why We Speak So Many Languages | Bible Stories Ep. 7

More than seven thousand languages are spoken on earth today. Why? The Bible answers in just nine verses: a city, a tower whose top would reach unto heaven, and a people who wanted to make a name for themselves. This is Episode 7 of our journey through the entire Bible, story by story. Today: Genesis chapter 11, the tower of Babel, why God came down to see it, what happened when the languages were confused, the surprising link to Pentecost, and the family line that leads from Shem to Abram. 📖 Chapters 0:00 Why So Many Languages? 0:26 Welcome 0:46 After the Flood 1:07 One Language, One Speech 1:29 Brick for Stone 1:57 What Herodotus Saw 2:13 "Let Us Make Us a Name" 2:35 Why Was It Wrong? 2:55 What Did the Tower Look Like? 3:17 Nimrod and Babel 3:39 "The Lord Came Down" 3:59 "Nothing Will Be Restrained" 4:20 "Let Us Go Down" 4:43 Confusion 5:04 Scattered 5:26 Did God Destroy the Tower? 5:44 Babel and Balal 6:11 Every Language You Hear 6:33 Pentecost 7:00 Babel Turned Around 7:27 The Generations of Shem 7:43 Shorter Lives 8:04 Eber and the Hebrews 8:23 Ur of the Chaldees 8:48 Sarai Was Barren 9:11 Terah Sets Out 9:34 God's Answer to Babel 9:55 "I Will Make Thy Name Great" 10:16 Next: Abraham ⬅️ Missed Episode 6?
