IN THE SHADOW OF THE MOON

It started as a trip to see what else we could find. After spending the last two summers exploring familiar terrain and slowly pushing farther into the unknown, we were curious about what lay beyond the places we already knew. The previous summer we’d found a line that took a serious mission to reach, and it left us wondering what else might be hidden out there. That curiosity keeps pulling you farther. Around every corner there’s another potential line. You have to decide whether to commit to what’s in front of you, or keep searching for something better. That’s the hunt. This trip felt like a mirage. We found incredible terrain and rode some great sections, but we were always searching for the one big line that would make the trip. The potential was everywhere, but some of the massive lines we found needed perfect conditions. We were chasing a powder day. Even getting there was never guaranteed. Felix and I started with a couple of phone calls where he was telling me he probably couldn’t make it. Between work and some seriously rough water, it looked like the trip might not happen. Somehow the dates lined up, and we pulled it off. In the end, that’s what keeps us going. There are always more places to explore, more lines to find, and another reason to disappear into the mountains. After everything it took just to get there, I’m incredibly proud that we did.
