「歩けるかな？」母が見守る最初の挑戦　【赤ちゃん・ニホンザル・４K動画】

ウイロウと新生児のわらび君が、穏やかな朝を過ごす様子を追った映像です。ウイロウは、最初の子・おはぎ君の時から子育てが非常に安定しており、ミジュのように不安を見せることもなく、試行錯誤するタイプでもありません。過保護にも手抜きにもならず、必要なことを淡々とこなす、経験豊富な母ザルらしい育児が特徴です。 この日の朝、ウイロウは早速わらび君の歩行練習を始めます。視線を送り、時にそらし、歩くよう促しますが、午前中のわらび君はまだモジモジするばかりで、ほとんど歩けませんでした。ウイロウはその様子を見て迎えに行き、無理をさせず、時間をおいて再び訓練を続けました。結果、少しずつ歩けるようになり、赤ちゃん特有の“昨日できなかったことが今日できる”という成長の瞬間が見られます。 授乳と毛繕いの時間も多く、特にウイロウは他の母ザルより毛繕いに費やす時間が長い印象です。上の息子たちが来ても、ひたすら毛繕いを続けるのがウイロウ流。対照的にヌーヌは気分次第で、時には子供たちに自分を毛繕いさせることもあります。 一方、みたらし君は3月頃から“ママ返り”が始まり、ウイロウに毛繕いをするようになりました。弟の誕生を察しての行動と考えられます。ただ、授乳中にウイロウがわらび君の頭を手で押し当てるような仕草が見られ、授乳を妨げているようにも見える場面があります。頻繁ではなく時々ですが、これは毛繕いをしたい気持ちなのか、あるいは飲み過ぎを防ぐための調整なのか、理由は謎です。別の母ザルにも同じ行動が見られたため、授乳量のコントロールの可能性もあります。 これからの3ヶ月は、赤ちゃんザルにとって劇的な成長の連続です。わらび君がどんなスピードで世界を広げていくのか、目が離せません。 This video follows Willow and her newborn son, Warabi, as they spend a calm and gentle morning together. From her very first child, Ohagi, Willow has shown remarkable stability and confidence in her parenting. Unlike Miju, who often appeared anxious and unsure, Willow has never been the type to struggle through trial and error. She is neither overprotective nor careless—her parenting is balanced, consistent, and efficient, reflecting the experience of a highly capable mother macaque. On this particular morning, Willow begins walking practice with Warabi. She encourages him by sending glances, sometimes looking at him directly and other times intentionally looking away to prompt him to move. However, throughout the morning, Warabi mostly fidgets and hesitates, unable to take proper steps. Observing this, Willow eventually walks over to pick him up, choosing not to push him too hard. After some time, she resumes the training, and gradually, Warabi begins to take small steps. This is a classic example of infant development—what they cannot do one day, they suddenly manage the next. Much of their time is also spent nursing and grooming. Willow, in particular, devotes an unusually large amount of time to grooming compared to other mothers. Even when her older sons come close, she continues grooming them endlessly. This is in contrast to Nunu, who responds based on her mood and sometimes even lies down in front of her children, demanding to be groomed herself. Meanwhile, Mitarashi, Willow’s second son, has been showing signs of “returning to mom” since around March. He has started grooming Willow more frequently, likely sensing the arrival of his new baby brother. However, there is a curious behavior seen during nursing: Willow occasionally presses Warabi’s head gently with her hand, in a way that looks like she might be interrupting the feeding. It doesn’t happen every time, only occasionally. The reason is unclear—perhaps she simply wants to groom him, or perhaps she is regulating his milk intake. Interestingly, another mother macaque with a slightly older infant has been observed doing the same thing, suggesting it may indeed be a form of nursing adjustment rather than rejection. The next three months will be a period of dramatic growth for Warabi. Baby macaques develop rapidly—skills they lacked yesterday may suddenly appear tomorrow.
