A slow-moving storm system carrying tropical moisture triggered historic flash flooding across the Four Corners region, leaving rivers overflowing, roads submerged, and multiple desert towns inundated across Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico. The San Juan River reached near-record crests, breaching levees and flooding homes twice within four days in communities such as Bluff, Utah. At least two fatalities have been reported in New Mexico, while hundreds of residents required emergency rescue.
Atmosphere-driven El Niño conditions brought heavy rainfall onto hard, drought-parched soils, preventing water absorption and causing severe runoff. Breached wastewater facilities in Bloomfield and Montezuma Creek released raw sewage into floodwaters, creating critical biohazard and contamination risks for downstream communities. Infrastructure damage remains severe, leaving hundreds of homes without power, roads destroyed, and thousands vulnerable to upcoming storms.
In this video, viewers will see footage of widespread flooding in desert communities, roof and helicopter rescues, mud-covered homes in flooded neighborhoods, and structural damage caused by an EF1 tornado in Santa Fe.
Confirmed casualty and missing-person figures are pinned in the comments and updated as official numbers change.
