After being betrayed by an informant and surviving brutal SS interrogation without giving up his family's initial hiding place, Abraham's salvation came when he flawlessly altered a uniform for a high-ranking Gestapo officer. Drafted to work as a master tailor for the Gestapo, he navigated the deadly Lodz Ghetto with incredible resilience. Yet, he steadfastly refused to compromise his morality. He outright rejected demands to join Chaim Rumkowski's corrupt Jewish police force, choosing integrity over complicity with evil. Instead, Abraham used his position to become a lifeline for others, engaging in underground sabotage and quiet resistance. In acts of immense bravery, he secretly traded goods for bread to feed the starving and helped construct a hidden underground bunker to shelter fellow Jews from the relentless deportations to the death camps. His defiance nearly cost him everything when he was shot in the leg. To prevent the Gestapo from discovering his injury and executing him, a brave Jewish doctor performed a harrowing, clandestine surgery—using a simple wire coat hanger to extract the bullet from his flesh. At the heart of his endurance is a story of profound devotion to his wife, Miriam. In one of the testimony's most gripping moments, Abraham describes risking instant execution to confront the Gestapo, pulling Miriam directly from the selection lines bound for the gas chambers. Their deep bond and his iron will sustained him through the unimaginable horrors of Nazi brutality.
