A tiger shark brought up a human arm in front of a paying crowd. That was the start: 10 things found inside animal stomachs, and what each one proved. A stomach dissolves the soft parts and keeps the hard ones, which quietly turns every large predator into a collecting expedition nobody paid for. From licence plates and flying foxes in tiger sharks to an entire reindeer in a Greenland shark, a duck band that crossed 990 miles inside a golden eagle, and eighteen thousand squid beaks counted in a single sperm whale. We work through the 1935 Shark Arm Case in Sydney, still officially unsolved; the colossal squid named in 1925 from two arm crowns pulled out of a whale and not filmed alive until March 2025; and the Cuvier's beaked whale that came ashore in the Philippines with 40 kilograms of plastic inside it. Documented cases stay sourced; the old stories — the leg at Pond Inlet, the suit of armour — are told as the legends they are.
