How much of your progress in EVE Online comes from skill points — and how much comes from simply knowing what you’re doing? In this first episode, I start again with a brand-new Alpha character to find out what an experienced player can accomplish without relying on years of accumulated skills and resources. I chose Caldari, although that choice matters far less than many new players assume. The basic faction-specific skills for all four empires can be trained surprisingly quickly, so this series isn’t really about starting as Caldari. It’s about the difference between character experience and player experience. Along the way, I’ll also try to answer two questions that appear constantly among new and potential players: Is it still worth starting EVE Online in 2026?
